The Spanish newspaper Marca has nominated a number of players to win the 2018 Golden Ball award, with five players in the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Since 2008, only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been crowned with five balls per player, and this year will appear to be an exception after a great number of players have been crowned, the first to go away from titles and a gradual decline on the second level.

The Spanish newspaper believes that there are players who are able to snatch the golden ball from Messi and Ronaldo now, Antoine Grizman and Kylian Mbabie duo of France, Belgian star Kevin de Bruin, Croatian player Luka Modric and striker Harry Kane.

Grizman led Atletico Madrid to the European Championship title and was decisive in the World Cup, while Mbabi won local titles with Paris Saint-Germain and offers a very impressive level with France in the World Cup.

Modric was able to crown the Champions League with Real Madrid and lead his country to the semi-finals of the World Cup and to provide a wonderful level in the tournament, and because of his impressive performance may get a large number of votes.
For Kevin De Bruyn, he led Manchester City to the Premier League title last season and also to the semi-finals, while Harry Kane's goals and his country's World Cup title after an absence since 1966 will enter the nominations strongly.
